Kemet was founded in 1990. However the company`s history began in 1919 in Cleveland, USA. At that time the company`s name was Union Carbide. The name “Kemet” is a word mix of “chemical” and “metallurgy”. Recently EVOX-RIFA, BHC and Arcotronics have joined the Kemet group.

Since the transistor was invented, Kemet replaced the vacuum tube by the use of tantalum capacitors. Kemet being an innovative company chose the tantalum capacitors to be their new product and achieved marked leadership in the 1950s. In 1969 Kemet began to produce ceramic capacitors thereby ensuring an increase in market share.
