Ruf was founded in Germany in 1949 as a producer of Potentiometers. Since that time the company`s main area of operation has become Sensotechnique. In order  to remain loyal to it`s customers, Ruf decided to produce some quality Trim- and Spin Potentiometers. In 2005 the company was taken over by Bourns and as a result changed its name to Bourns Sensor GmbH.
